This market will resolve to "Yes" if Spain's Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, is removed from power for any length of time between December 2, 2025 and the listed date, ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will be considered removed from power if he announces his resignation, is dismissed, detained, disqualified, or otherwise loses his position or is prevented from fulfilling his duties as Prime Minister of Spain within this market's timeframe. The primary resolution source for this market will be a consensus of credible reporting.

Is a grey zone Id say, like saying "Ill leave when Im legally required to, and everything points that will be in X date after a PP and VOX agreement" not sure if it should count

Por tanto "ceases to be Prime Minister"?

Only if he announces he leaves his position before January 1. If not he will be Prime Minister "en funciones" until then.

"An announcement of Pedro Sánchez's resignation/removal before this market's end date will immediately resolve this market to "Yes", regardless of when the announced resignation/removal goes into effect. " so if he loses and announces that he will leave that's enough to win

The newly elected chambers will gather on 23D. 5 days max to form the legislative groups, 1 day for the king summoning them and proposing a candidate, and the voting may take place. 30 and 31 are both working days. If both parties reach an agreement in 4 weeks, it's done.

"ad interim" is just the cause he is PM during that period. The constitution does not allow for a power gap between two elected PMs, there is a PM 100% of the time. Even if a PM dies, the first invested Deputy Prime Minister (Vicepresidente) becomes the new PM immediately, then the second and so on. If the DPM dies, normal ministers become PM. If all the ministers die, the president of the congress becomes PM, if the president of the congress dies, the king becomes PM, if the king dies, royal succession rules are used to determine the new king and the new king becomes PM.

gamblingaddicts76d

In 2011, we had the general election on 20 N, and Rajoy was elected prime minister on 20 D.. So the timeline is very tight, but I’d still say it’s pretty plausible, like 60–70% (PP+Vox majority sits at +90%). I don’t get why is currently valued <30%.

jepper6d
He is..
Milin-dc6d
Well, if we take market rules literally (which weren't written by a spanish), this market shouldn't exist. Pedro Sánchez is not Prime Minister.
Milin-dc6d

gamblingaddicts76d

There will be no announcement until a new government is formed, no matter how unfavorable the election results may be. The fastest government formation in Spain following a general election took place in 1986. The PSOE retained its absolute majority. Even then, it took 31 days, a tight timeframe if we extrapolate that to the current scenario, assuming the election is held on the 29th.

He is "Presidente del Gobierno" not "Presidente". The head of state is king Felipe
McBet136d
In english-speaking countries, Spain's "president" is the king (head of state) and Sánchez is the Prime Minister (head of the parliament). Spanish constitution mandates a PM to always be in charge. An acting PM is still a PM. There is never a power gap. Sanchez will be the PM until a new one is named. This can be done either via a moción de censura, cuestión de confianza, new elections, resignation (jajajajaja) or death. The constitution does not foresee any other case in which a PM ceases to be a PM.
Pudimos136d
He will remain president until someone else takes over, so the resolution would be No.
gaianauta137d
The resolution criteria are unclear. First, Pedro Sánchez is the president, not the prime minister. Secondly, if he calls for elections he automatically becomes 'acting president'. Does this qualify as being "out"?
0x9A72E4332Ba79A7966b150203777481d091f0782-1772396328837137d
I disagree. Yes an announcement of resignation/removal can resolve the market to YES, but the removal itself still has to fall within the market's timeframe, otherwise there's no removal to announce. I argue that an election result where Sánchez loses is not such an announcement. Under Article 101 of the Spanish Constitution, he doesn't stop being PM after an election, he stays on as caretaker (en funciones) until a successor is invested, which takes time (article 101 says "The outgoing Government shall continue in power until the new Government takes office". Extra highlight on the "shall continue in power"). If he stays as PM "en funciones" until January 1, then he never ceased to be PM of Spain in 2026. If the market resolves incorrectly it will have to be disputed.
0x17cF29b47A2426d432214472EEe58c647fDc60f7-1765011609524137d
That doesn't matter; the rules specify that what matters is the announcement, not the date on which the hypothetical termination takes effect.
0x226e546F1C537EBAfDcf0AEF733E9E131cEBdEEc-1776083738978138d
This question is wrong. Pedro Sanchez is not and has never been prime minister, since that position doesn't exist in Spain. It should say President.

I wanted to mention that except in the case of the last "vote of no confidence", after elections it takes around a month to stop being the Prime Minister.

People have been calling for elections for years, and the disastrous regional results are no surprise. Elections are coming soon, in 2027. As time goes on, the less sense it makes to try to achieve a vote of no confidence (something that would be almost impossible, because the parties that would have to initiate it are unwilling to take such action)
