# Open source Hark Pro alternative

Want an open source Hark Pro alternative? Hark Pro, found at hark.com, is a personal agent that went live on October 6, 2026 as a hosted app for web, iOS, and Android. Its launch article says all features remain free, with $20 a month buying double the usage and $100 a month buying ten times as much.

Krypton works like Grok Bot: one chat where you set up the bot and then manage it. Hark Pro feels more like a messaging app. Its launch article also covers Home, Action Buttons, and Panels; Projects, each a dedicated chat with its own threads; and Handoff, a cloud computer operated by Hark.

Handoff, Hark's computer-use agent, was introduced on August 5, 2026. Everything here comes from Hark's public pages and is not a measured benchmark.

Based on public descriptions as of October 7, 2026.

## Krypton vs Hark Pro, side by side

| Topic | Krypton | Hark Pro |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Product | An open source home for persistent AI teammates, currently in beta. | Hark Pro, a hosted personal agent for web, iOS, and Android, launched October 6, 2026. Hark says it remembers what you share and can take action on the web. |
| Who runs it | You, when you self-host with Docker or connect the desktop and mobile apps to a server you operate. Prefer not to? Krypton Cloud (beta) runs it for you. | Per the terms, Hark Labs, Inc. operates the hosted service. They describe no self-host install and limit reverse engineering of the service. |
| Price | The open source software carries no seat fee. You pay only the model and computer providers you choose. | Free for every feature the launch article lists. Paying $20 a month doubles usage, and $100 a month gives ten times as much. |
| Day-to-day management | Connect a model and Krypton is just chat. You steer the bot from that conversation on web, desktop, and mobile, and routines are Markdown you can read. | Per the launch article, the conversation is styled like a messaging app, with Projects as standalone chats (each with threads) plus Home, Action Buttons, and Panels around it. To review, change, or remove memory, the privacy policy says you just ask the agent. |
| Model | Any supported provider with credentials you bring, a custom model server included. Every bot can run a different model. | Hark says in its launch article that it is training models. Its security page says Hark favors its own models and that vetted third-party models retain no data. The terms name no public model you can switch to, and say Hark may train on your submissions if you have not opted out, though feedback and material sent to safety review stay usable. |
| Computer | Each bot gets a sandboxed desktop with a browser, terminal, and files. Docker on your own machine is the default, and you can swap in E2B, Daytona, CreateOS, Boat, or a trusted computer of your own. | Handoff, which Hark introduced on August 5, 2026, is a virtual machine offering a terminal, files, and a browser. According to the October 6 launch article, it handles up to 6 browsers at the same time and can log in for you. Hark operates that computer. |
| Connected apps | Pick Composio or Pipedream Connect, or install your own Treg, remote MCP, or OpenAPI source. The server encrypts connector credentials, and the API never hands them back. | Per the launch article: MCP, files, external databases, and the Outlook and Google APIs. Cards and passwords are kept in Secured by Hark, a vault Hark says it has no view into. |
| Ongoing work | Every bot has its own conversations, memory, routines, and history. Bots write facts to memory without being asked, and the team rules turn a procedure that worked into a skill any bot in the workspace can pick up. Bots can hand work to a peer bot or to a short-lived subagent. | Memory sticks around until you ask Hark to forget. Scheduled tasks are supported. Hark proposes Action Buttons based on what it has learned about you, and tapping one runs it. |
| Approval | You draw the boundaries. When a task crosses one, the bot stops and asks first, and every action lands in an audit log. | The homepage says Hark checks with you before any action needing approval. Per its security page, every task starts from your consent, and you may observe the computer-use agent or cancel it. Per the launch article, if you allow it, Hark can complete some tasks by itself. |
| Where you use it | The Krypton web, desktop, and mobile apps. If you want them, optional connectors add Telegram, Slack, WhatsApp, Feishu/Lark, or iMessage through Sendblue. | Web, iOS, and Android. According to the privacy policy, everything happens in one continuous conversation, with chat, voice, and file uploads as inputs. Users must be at least 18. |

## Why an open source, self-hosted agent

- Every line is public on GitHub under the Apache-2.0 license.
- Deploy from the published Docker images or straight from source, on hardware you control. The desktop app can launch that stack on your computer or connect to a server you already operate.
- Model credentials are yours to bring. Connector credentials stay encrypted on the server, and the API never returns them.
- Routines are Markdown you can read. Bots stop for your approval at the boundaries you set, and each action is written to an audit log.
- Web, Electron desktop, and Expo mobile are all clients of one API, so the same bots follow you everywhere.

## Try Krypton your way

Self-host it on your own machine, or skip the setup with Krypton Cloud, now in beta.

## Hark Pro alternative: common questions

### Is Krypton a replacement for Hark Pro?

Not one for one. Hark Pro is a hosted agent you reach at hark.com, run by Hark Labs, Inc. Krypton is open source, built for persistent AI teammates, and runs on infrastructure you control. Both turn a conversation into finished tasks. The gaps are in hosting, choice of model, and who runs the computer.

### Can I self-host Krypton?

Yes, today. Use the published Docker images or build from a source checkout. If you would rather not run servers, hosted Krypton Cloud is in beta.

### What does daily management look like for each?

Once Krypton is installed with Docker or the desktop app and a model is connected, it is just chat, much like Grok Bot, and you steer the bot from that conversation. Hark Pro feels like a messaging app; its launch article layers on Home, Action Buttons, Panels, and Projects, the last being dedicated chats with separate threads.

### Can Krypton place orders or run something like Hark's Handoff?

No. Ordering, paying bills, and Handoff are Hark features described on its own site. Krypton runs as a web app, an Electron desktop app, and an Expo mobile app. A Krypton bot works a browser, terminal, files, and desktop on a computer you run, and stops for approval at the boundaries you set.

### What sources does the Hark Pro column use?

Six Hark pages: the homepage, the security page, the Hark Pro launch article (October 6, 2026), the Handoff article (August 5, 2026), the privacy policy (updated October 1, 2026), and the terms (posted June 30, 2026). Everything here concerns Hark Pro at hark.com. Confirm a capability there before you depend on it.
